AMAZING FACTS AND FIGURES ABOUT HUMAN POPULATION ON EARTH!
By Engr. Kabiru el-Hussain Rumah Jakadan Rumah
Do we really know the following:
1. The human population of the world during the Christian Era (30 to 33 AD) was estimated to be around 300 million people?
2. By 1650 AD often referred to as the beginning of the modern era of science and technology, that population had increased to 500 million people and since then, the growth of the population had been explosive, that the world population stood at 4.7 billion people in 1983 AD;
3. But fortunately or unfortunately, it took only 130 years (1930 from 1800 AD) to add the second billion, giving estimated world population of 2 billion in 1930 AD;
4. It took only a further 30 years (1960 from 1930 AD) to add the third billion, giving estimated world population of 3 billion in 1960 AD;
5. It took mere 15 years (1975 from 1960 AD) to the fourth billion, giving estimated world population of 4 billion in 1975 AD;
6. It took mere 12 years (1987 from 1975 AD) to the fifth billion giving estimated world population of 5 billion on 11th July, 1987 AD;
7. It took another mere 12 years (1999 from 1987 AD) to the sixth billion giving estimated world population of 6 billion on 12th October, 1999 AD;
8. It took another mere 12 years (2011 from 1999 AD) to the seventh billion giving estimated world population of 7 billion on 31st October, 2011 AD;
9. It took mere 11 years (2022 from 2011 AD) to the eighth billion giving estimated world population of 8 billion on 15th November, 2022 AD;
10. The current world population is 8,199,590,341 people and as of Wednesday, January 15, 2025 AD and according to Worldometer (accessed on the same date);
11. The world’s population is expected to increase by nearly 2 billion persons in the next 30 years, from the current 8.2 billion to 9.7 billion in 2050 and could peak at nearly 10.4 billion in the mid 2080s, at which point the world population is expected to head downwards reaching 10.2 billion in 2100 and according to the United Nations;
12. The above therefore means, the world population has therefore grown at a rates which have increased from about 2% per thousand years during the Paleolithic Era to about 2% per annum in the mid 1950s - a thousand increase;
13. In other words, it took most of humanity's time on earth - perhaps 500,000 years - for the population to reach one billion, which is the estimated population in 1800 AD;
